A LIFE OF LOVE
Ede was born on January 22, 1935, in Alabama, to the late Mattie Leonard and Ede Patterson III. After being orphaned, he was adopted by the Curtis Mayfield family, who helped shape his character, leadership, and faith.
He shared almost 50 years of love and family with his first wife, Blanche. Together, they raised four children — Trina, Ede, Gayle, and Christy — and built a home rooted in faith, tradition, and togetherness. Ede was a devoted and steady presence, always prioritizing his family. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He built a home rooted in faith, tradition, and togetherness.
Later in life, God blessed him with his soulmate, Marcia. They shared 18 beautiful years together and were married on February 7, 2021. They enjoyed traveling, concerts, and meaningful time together. Marcia stood by his side with love and care until his last breath.
A LIFE OF SERVICE
Ede Patterson answered the call of duty at the age of eighteen, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1953. He served with honor and distinction for over two decades, retiring in 1976. His military career was defined not only by discipline and leadership, but by a quiet determination to build something lasting.
The stability and opportunity of his service provided the foundation upon which his family was raised and his legacy was built. He wore his service with humility and carried it with pride.
After retiring, Ede continued his dedication to public service by working for the federal government for 30 years. That steady commitment reflected the same integrity and devotion that marked every chapter of his life. He also mentored boys in Tacoma public schools — sharing wisdom earned through decades of discipline, sacrifice, and integrity.
He wore his service with humility and carried it with pride.
A LIFE OF MUSIC & FAITH
Faith was the compass that guided Ede through every season of life. Rooted in that faith, music was a constant and meaningful part of his journey — a reflection of his deep connection to God and his desire to uplift everyone around him.
His love for gospel music was not just a passion; it was a calling. Ede was a proud member of The Golden Harps, using his voice and his heart to share joy, faith, and encouragement with all who heard him. Whether in the choir loft or around the family table, his voice carried something sacred.
He sang because he believed in God — and those who heard him believed a little more because of it.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."— 2 Timothy 4:7
