EARLY YEARS
Ede was born on January 22, 1935, in Alabama, to the late Mattie Leonard and Ede Patterson III. After being orphaned at a young age, he was adopted by the Curtis Mayfield family, who helped shape his character, leadership, and faith. Those early years of adversity forged a resilience and determination that would define every chapter of his remarkable life.
A LIFE OF SERVICE
In 1953, at just 18 years old, Ede Patterson IV answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. What began as a young man's sense of duty became a defining chapter of his life — one that would span 23 years of dedicated military service. He served with honor and distinction, retiring in 1976.
His military career was defined not only by discipline and leadership, but by a quiet determination to build something lasting. The stability and opportunity of his service provided the foundation upon which his family was raised and his legacy was built. He wore his service with humility and carried it with pride.
After retiring from the Air Force, Ede dedicated 30 more years to federal government service, continuing to serve his country in a different capacity but with the same unwavering dedication.
Beyond his professional career, Ede volunteered his time mentoring young boys in Tacoma public schools — sharing wisdom earned through decades of discipline, sacrifice, and integrity. He believed in lifting others up, and his impact on young lives continues to resonate.

A LIFE OF MUSIC & FAITH
Faith was the compass that guided Ede through every season of life. Rooted in that faith, music was a constant and meaningful part of his journey — a reflection of his deep connection to God and his desire to uplift everyone around him.
His love for gospel music was not just a passion; it was a calling. Ede was a proud member of The Golden Harps, using his voice and his heart to share joy, faith, and encouragement with all who heard him. Whether in the choir loft or around the family table, his voice carried something sacred. He sang because he believed in God — and those who heard him believed a little more because of it.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."— 2 Timothy 4:7

A LIFE OF LOVE
For nearly 50 years, Ede shared his life with his beloved wife Blanche. Together they built a family, a home, and a legacy of love. They raised four children — instilling in each of them the values of faith, service, and devotion that defined their parents' lives.
After Blanche's passing, life brought Ede another beautiful chapter. He and Marcia Carter Patterson found each other, sharing 18 wonderful years together, crowned by their marriage on February 7, 2021. In Marcia, he found a partner in faith, laughter, and the quiet joys of life's later years. They enjoyed traveling, concerts, and meaningful time together. Marcia stood by his side with love and care until his last breath.
